New Education Policy 2020

New Education Policy 2020 has been introduced in India after 34 years. Now, Ministry of Human Resource Development has been renamed as Ministry of Education. Education Policy is revised 3 times since independence i.e, 1968, 1986 and 1992. Though in 1992 government amended 1986 with minor changes, but it was largely same. It is also said in policy that 6% of GDP will be allocated for education as recommended by Kothari Commission in 1964. Till now it never reached 6% but was 2.7% of GDP in 2017-18. This New Education Policy includes the recommendations of various committees such as Committee for Evolution of New Education Policy 2016  under Chairmanship of Late Shri T.S.R. Subramanian and Committee for the Draft National Education Policy 2017  under Chairmanship of eminent scientist Padma Vibhushan, Dr. K. Kasturirangan. The Cold War was an era during which there were geopolitical tensions between USA and USSR, where both the countries tried to prove themselves better and compete with each other in various aspects. India's stake in Iran's Chabahar Port

Chabahar port is located in Iran near strait of hormuz. In 2016, India signed deal with Iran of $8 billion investment in Chabahar and industries in Chabahar Special Economic Zone. Draft Environment Impact Assessment notification 2020

This year,in March, Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change(MoEFCC) had issued a draft Environment Impact Assesment(EIA) notification,2020. If this notification come into force then it will replace EIA notification of 2006. According to experts there are various flaws in this notification, which will erode the basic notion behind environment impact assessment. What is Environment Impact Assessment? Environment Impact Assesment is a tool which is used to anticipate the likely impact of any developmental project on environment and helps us by suggesting measures. EIA helps in maintaining balance between economic growth and environment conservation. EIA was introduced  in India in 1978 to anticipate the environmental impact of river valley projects.         Then in 1994  EIA notification was introduced under the provision of Environment(Protection) act, 1986. Militarization of Indian Ocean

Recent development: Islamic Revolutionary Gaurd corps( IRGC), which is a elite group of Iranian army, plans to set up a permanent base in Indian Ocean region. Indian ocean is third largest ocean in the world and due to its strategic and economic importance various countries try to control it. There are various exit and entry points in Indian ocean like strait of Mallaca, strait of Hormuz and Bab al Mandeb,so by choking these points anyone can control trade through Indian Ocean.
